Shooting a videotape in the mid 1970’s was in some ways the easy part – having it seen was a lot more difficult. 1n 1977, Westcom setup a “video tent” during the "Operation Recreation" festivities at Cherry Lake Altona. Videotapes of the mornings street parade were played back to interested onlookers.

Video equipment was also on display via Alan Dyall and the Channel Four group. Alan Dyall was set up on top of his van shooting the activities while people gathered below to view a monitor setup inside his van.

Channel Four were demonstrating the multi camera equipment they used to shoot the parade and talking with the locals about video.

More Freyer Street . . .

This collection of photographs were taken by John Robinson in 1976. The first group of images shows the control room and studio area at Freyer Street.

The second group of photographs captures David Page, Rob Manderson, Frank Chiodi, Peter Fraser, Marko Maksymyschyn (Shive), Bill Dyall, Alan Dyall, Lassya Maksymyschyn (Shive), Malcolm Cormack and Robin Kenny during another co-op meeting at the studio.

FreVideo - Public Video Event

In early 1975, before John Robinson travelled east and became Westcom’s technician, he was assistant director of FreVideo, a community access video centre in Fremantle Perth.
